First Team Match Reports

Scottish Cup 1st round
The game started with Gala pushing forward for the first 15 mins without really causing Strollers keeper Ramsey any problems, the Strollers had soaked up the early pressure and were now taking the game to Gala and were rewarded in the 16th minute when Millar got his head to the ball as Gala keeper Turnbull hesitated, the ball crept in under the bar to give the Strollers the lead. The remainder of the half was evenly contested but neither Keeper was overworked.
HT 1-0
Strollers kicked off the second half and were on the attack right away, with around 10 minutes gone Lynch could have doubled Strollers advantage but he just failed to connect cleanly with a John Dunn cross with the Gala defence all at sea. The Gala midfield took a grip of the game just after this but still failed to trouble Ramsey in the Strollers goal. Around the 60 minute mark Gala had a header cleared of the line by Campbell. Strollers then came back into the game and created two clear cut chances which Turnbull in the Gala goal did well to save, the Gala keeper then had another good save from a free Kick destined for the top corner. With around 10 mins left Gala were reduced to 10 men and Strollers saw out the remainder of the game on top. A very tight game which the Strollers just deserved to win and see themselves go into the hat for the second round draw on Wednesday.
FT 1-0

Selkirk v Strollers
Strollers had the hosts under pressure right from the kick off, John Dunn finished a great move with a looping cross from the left that had Dodds under pressure. As the half progressed Selkirk began to come into the game with Black and Jackson making the Strollers defence work hard to keep them at bay, a Jackson header brought out a fine save from Strollers keeper Ramsey. The Selkirk offside trap was working to good effect until the 41st minute when Rennie had a suberb shot well saved by Dodds but the keeper couldnt hold the shot and Turnbull followed up to open the scoring. Strollers could have went further ahead just on half time but Turnbull failed to connect with Wheelans back post cross.
HT Selkirk 0 - 1 Strollers
Strollers came out for the second half having made a change, Wheelan who had to be substituted after sustaining an ankle injury was replaced by Bain. This didnt prevent Strollers keeping up the pressure with Dunn finding a lot of space on the Left, after 60 minutes the pressure paid off as Turnbull netted his second of the game, the ball came in from the left and Turnbull came across his marker to turn the ball past a helpless Dodds. After 75 mins Strollers took the hard working Turnbull off and sent on Millar who almost had an immediate effect, only a last ditch tackle preventing him adding to the scoreline. Strollers then lost Somerville who was suffering from ankle injury picked up after the second goal, he was replaced by Speed. With around 10 minutes remaining John Dunn latched on to a defencive mistake to make it 3 - 0. Strollers saw out the remainder of the game comfortably to record a good victory in their first game back in the Premier.
Booked for Strollers - Bain and Campbell
